Study-focused Vedanta philosophy retreats in the Ramakrishna tradition
Vedanta Center of Greater Austin teaches Vedanta philosophy, one of the oldest schools of Indian thought. The tradition deals with consciousness, self-knowledge, and the question of what's real. Vedanta Centers in the U.S. trace back to the Ramakrishna Order, and the Austin group follows that same teaching lineage.
Their main offering is retreats, and they've brought in Swami Sarvapriyananda, who heads the Vedanta Society of New York. Sarvapriyananda has built a large audience through YouTube lectures that pull from both classical Sanskrit texts and Western philosophy. He's one of the more rigorous teachers in this space, so his presence tells you something about where this center sits. This isn't watered-down spirituality.
Not a lot of public information about their regular programming or how big the community is. They're oriented around study retreats rather than casual drop-in events. If you want to spend a few days working through Vedantic ideas with a serious teacher, this is the Austin group doing that.
