About Heart Body Song ~ Sarah S. Bentley

Sarah S. Bentley runs singing circles in Austin, Texas. That's the short version. The longer version is that she calls herself a "song catcher, song carrier, and song leader," and if you show up to one of her Heart Body Song gatherings, you'll understand why.

Her circles combine group singing with mindful movement, ritual, and communal prayer. She describes them as "down-to-earth, heart-centered, and powerful," and the down-to-earth part matters here. These aren't performances. Nobody's auditioning. People show up, sing together, move their bodies, and something shifts in the room. Sarah leads the group through songs she's gathered and carried from various traditions, weaving them together with movement and moments of stillness.

Sarah started singing as a kid and later performed as a singer/songwriter. Along the way she went deep into integrative medicine, studying qigong, yoga, and meditation alongside health promotion, behavioral science, and community resilience. That background shows up in how she structures a circle. There's intention behind the pacing, the song choices, and the way she moves a group from one state to another. It's not freeform. She knows what she's doing with people's nervous systems even when the experience feels loose and organic.

Her ceremonies follow the rhythms of the year. The Spring Equinox Community Singing Ritual, now in its third year, is a good example of what Heart Body Song looks like in practice: a ceremony tied to a specific moment in the calendar, built around communal singing and movement. She treats these gatherings as prayer, not performance. The word "ritual" isn't decoration. She means it.

Sarah's stated intention is to "spread peace in the world by sharing the wisdom of movement and heart songs to harmonize our communal resonance and raise the vibration of the Earth and Her inhabitants." That's her language, and she's sincere about it. She believes group singing changes the energy in a room and, by extension, beyond it. You either connect with that idea or you don't, but the people who keep coming back to her circles clearly do.
