Functional Mobility for Yogi's

Hosted by Diana Paschal / Practice Yoga

A Science-Based Approach to Sustainable Movement

Many dedicated yoga practitioners lack functional mobility, stability, and good posture. Why? Because mobility is about much more than flexibility and most yoga practices are inherently imbalanced.

In this experiential workshop, we will explore mobility through the lens of modern movement science, integrating principles that can fix typical postural imbalances of Yogis.

Participants will learn science-backed ways to find mobility using active stretching for the muscles, joints, and fascia, end range strength, nervous system support, breathing mechanics and motor control.

Together, we will examine the difference between passive flexibility and active mobility, and discover why strength at end range is essential for healthy joints, injury prevention, and longevity. We'll discuss how breathing and rib cage positioning can influence movement and posture. Through guided movement practices, participants will gain practical tools to improve joint health, increase movement range, and create greater resilience both on and off the mat. We'll explore how the body adapts to joint laxity, why hypermobile individuals may develop increased muscular tension, and how active mobility and proprioception work together to create stability and resilience.

This workshop will include mobility training for the feet, ankles, hips, spine, shoulders, and wrists. This is to build strength at end ranges as well as breathing exercises and neuromuscular techniques designed to improve body awareness, stability, and movement efficiency.

Participants will leave with a deeper understanding of how to integrate mobility into their yoga practice and teaching, helping students move with greater freedom, strength, and longevity.

This workshop is appropriate for yoga teachers, movement professionals, fitness practitioners, and dedicated students interested in moving beyond stagnate postures and stretching toward a more integrated, evidence-informed approach to mobility and human movement.
