People ask us if there are a set of teachings that Sacred Fire offers or principles we work with. The answer is YES.
For many years, each May (including this May 24, 2025), our local Sacred Fire community hosts a special audience with the Spirit of Fire that is available to the public - called Fire Speaks. This ceremony touches people in unlanguageable ways. We also receive wise counsel and teachings about life.
- We are creating this opportunity to share some of these teachings.
- We want to give people a glimpse of what they can learn through participating in Fire Speaks. Please Save the Date - May 24, 2025.
- We want to offer an opportunity during the day so families with children and folks who don’t drive at night can easily attend.
Timing: 3:00 - 5:00 pm - Please arrive on time.
Cost: Donations onsite or via paypal. Proceeds will be shared with the local and international community.
Directions: Address to the Sacred Fire Council House sent after signing up.
Coming from out of town? Feel free to ask about camping on the land.

MEET YOUR ASHEVILLE AREA FIREKEEPERS
Patrick Hanaway is a community leader, healer and teacher. For over 25 years, Patrick has served as a functional medicine family physician, educator and thought leader around the world. In the midst of his medical career, in 2002 Patrick received an ancestral calling to serve people as a traditional shamanic healer & ceremonial leader in the Wixárika tradition and was initiated as a Mara'akame in 2009. In 2003, Patrick received a further calling by fire to be of service to community and was initiated as a firekeeper for Sacred Fire. He has been hosting and facilitating fires for over 20 years. Patrick is also the Board Chairperson for the Blue Deer Center, a sacred place for retreat in the Catskills of NY which is one of Grandfather Fire's projects affiliated with Sacred Fire. He immerses himself in nature, community and family.
Lisa Lichtig, a devoted student of Grandfather Fire for 25 years, is also a firekeeper, medical doctor, midwife, traditional shamanic healer and mother. Lisa serves community as a Firekeeper for Sacred Fire hosting monthly community fires, womens’ fires and specialty fires. She and her husband, Patrick, are keepers of Grandfather Fire's oldest consecrated hearth within Sacred Fire. Lisa also serves on the Sacred Fire Women’s Initiation Council, which offers a formal process to guide adolescent girls and young women into adulthood. She also serves community as a Mara’akame (traditional shamanic healer and ceremonial leader in the Wixarika Tradition). She lives on a beautiful knoll in the Blue Ridge mountains of western North Carolina and carries the scent of fire wherever she goes.
