About Event

Improvisation & Exploration Workshop rooted in West African drumming

Improvisation & Exploration Workshop rooted in West African drumming traditions.

Join us on Fridays at 7:30pm for a unique Improvisation & Exploration Workshop rooted in West African drumming traditions.

This workshop is for anyone wanting to make music with percussion (or other types of instruments) in an environment that is supportive, fun, and non-judgmental.

Never touched an instrument in your life? Perfect. Seasoned pro with a degree from Berklee? That’s fine too. All levels are truly welcome; all we ask is that you leave egos and memorized musical ideas at home—in this setting there is no one to impress. Instead, be ready to listen, respond, and enjoy the freedom of making music using your natural ear and creative imagination.

A limited number of drums are available so bring your own if you can. You are also encouraged to bring a non-percussion instrument that you feel comfortable jamming with (e.g. trumpet, keyboard, etc.).

We are located at the beautiful Issyra Gallery at 300 Observer Highway in Hoboken, NJ which easily accessible by PATH train, NJ Transit and the Holland or Lincoln Tunnels.

Tickets are $25 link in bio

Note: This is not an open, freeform drum circle nor is it a teacher-led djembe class. Instead, each session will have light facilitation, an accompanist on dunun and perhaps an activity to help us dig into musical concepts.

We look forward to meeting you!
